Shannon grew up swimming for ANSC and was a member of the North Allegheny High School swim team. She was the Pennsylvania State champion in the 200 free in 1992 and 1993. She also held records at NA in the 200 and 500 freestyle. She received all American Honors while in high school.

She continued her swimming career at Michigan State University where she held the team record in the 200 free and 400 IM. After graduating from MSU with a degree in special education she moved to Germany and coached on a military base for two years.

Upon her return to the US she became the head coach of Huron High School swim team in Ohio. Shannon was also inducted into the North Allegheny Hall of Fame at this time. In 2005 she moved back to Pittsburgh and has been coaching with ANSC ever since. Shannon has three children who have all swam for ANSC and the NA High School swim team. During the day she is the secretary at McKnight Elementary School.
